Urahairo, meaning “Back Leaf Color,” is a soft, subdued green inspired by the paler underside of leaves. The color has been recognized in Japan since the Heian period, reflecting the tradition of finding distinctive colors in the natural world.

Part of TAG STATIONERY’s Kyo No Oto collection, Urahairo is a dye-based ink designed to show the fluid qualities of dye ink on paper. Its gentle color variations and natural bleeding create subtle shifts between lighter and darker tones, giving handwriting a little more depth without overwhelming the page.

Because the ink is water-soluble, it can also be worked with a water brush to soften, dilute, or spread the color. Urahairo can be used with fountain pens, pens, and brushes, making it suitable for everyday writing as well as expressive ink work.
